An internship is a for-credit experiential learning opportunity that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and professional skill development in a real-world work environment.
As a core component of the student experience, internships provide valuable hands-on learning that supports academic, personal, and career growth. Guided by both faculty and an on-site supervisor, students gain meaningful industry experience while applying their academic knowledge in a professional setting.
We follow the criteria established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) to ensure each internship provides a legitimate and educational experience for our students.
Internship Faculty Advisors will:
- Approve or deny internship sites to ensure they provide a meaningful educational experience for students.
- Meet with students prior to the start of the internship to discuss learning objectives and expectations.
- Develop college-level learning objectives, academic assignments, and submission deadlines related to the internship experience.
- Review on-site visitation procedures and final evaluation requirements with students and supervisors.
- Ensure students understand all internship course requirements, including logs, journals, reports, reflections, and other academic assignments.
- Maintain regular communication with students throughout the duration of the internship experience.
- Communicate with the student’s site supervisor at least once during the semester to evaluate the student’s progress and performance.
- Assess and assign grades for the student’s academic and experiential learning work.
- Evaluate each student’s overall internship performance at the conclusion of the semester.
- Share internship opportunities and employer leads with the Career Services staff whenever possible.
